The VMFS file system (Virtual Machine File System) is a cluster file system that enables virtualization of storage in multiple installations of VMware ESX servers. ESX allows a virtualization level to be displayed on which different virtual machines (VM) with different operating systems and controls can run. The virtual machines within the host file system share the resources of the hardware architecture (CPU, memory, controller, hard disk, etc.).
