Defective hard disk sectors can have various causes: For example, decreasing magnetization of the ferrite layer or partial damage to the data carrier surfaces by the read/write heads. Some sector errors can already exist at the factory. These are noted in the so-called P list. Incorrect sectors that are added during further operation are noted in the G list. The two lists are among the adaptive parameters that are individual for every single hard disk.
