Causes for data loss of LaCie hard drives

Just like any other mechanical or electronic device, LaCie hard drives are not resistant against wear and tear or a multitude of other failures. For example: A headcrash (click of death), PCB errors, damages on the ferromagnetic surfaces (read errors or I/O errors), firmware errors, bearing damage and motor damage or environmental unfluences such as water- or moisture damages or heat or fire damages.

General information about LaCie

The company is working under the name LaCie since a fusion in 1998. Back then it was a licensed supplier of SCSI hard drives for Apple and LaCie data carriers are still popular with Apple users - this may be thanks to the FireWire/Thundertbolt support and USB interface. The computing equipment company is located in France and was taken over by Seagate Technology iin 2013. Since then Seagate hard drives are used in all LaCie products. Other companies Seagate took over were Connor in 1996, Maxtor in 2005 and the Samsung hard drive branch in 2011.
